- Star Trek IV was released in the U.S. November 26, 1986. I have seen some sources describe this poster as a "printer's error" due to the December 12 release date — this is not the case. This advance poster advertises the studio's previously-planned release date for the film. "On 17 Sep 1986, [Hollywood Reporter] announced Paramount’s plan to move up the release date from 12 Dec 1986 to the Thanksgiving weekend." (Source)
- This was known as the "zoom-in" poster.
- Artwork appears unsigned in this version, although Peak signed this piece in the lower left corner.
- This exact design (including identical art, tagline wording and placement, and fine print / Paramount logo placement) was duplicated for the mini sheet (typically 14" x 20", exact measurements given as 13.5" x 20") for this film. More info on mini sheets can be found here. Note that 13.5 x 20 is exactly half of 27 x 40, the size of a one sheet.
- This artwork was also used for the retail packaging (cassette tape insert, CD insert, and 12" LP album sleeve, shown below) of the MCA Records releases of the original motion picture soundtrack (soundtrack promo poster here).
